Around 2008 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. Prior to that year I had been having trouble with skin breakouts on my arms and legs. I was also suffering from Reynaud’s in my hands and feet and severe pain in my hands and feet. In 2012 the diagnosis of Lupus was made.
Rheumatologists were recommending steroids and cancer medications as a way to treat the Lupus. I was unwilling for the side effects that these drugs would leave me with and began researching alternatives to managing my Lupus. I continued to work with a rheumatologist but was concerned that without lifestyle changes my lupus symptoms might progress. I began an anti-inflammatory diet after reading a book regarding diet and auto immune. While I did find some relief from diet I really wanted to find a health care professional I could count on to partner with me regarding my health concerns.
In 2019, after reading a book regarding autoimmune issues I found Trevor Hausauer FNP-C through a website listed in the back of the book. Trevor is the only practitioner in ND listed on the Institute for Functional Medicine website and he was accepting new patients. I reached out to Trevor and we set up a discovery call. My health focus was to work on reducing the effects of Lupus, weight loss, lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.
After the discovery call Trevor and I met to decide on a plan of action and we agreed that I would have a number of tests done to determine functioning in my body. I had blood work, stool and urine testing, and well breath testing. At this time I also completed a detailed personal and family history that included life events and a review of my life style over the past 50 years.
Once testing was completed and the paperwork filled out Trevor put all the information together and we met again for a case review. Based on the results we were able to see how my health concerns now were related to what we saw in the tests as well as how my life history affected health trauma in my life. We also saw that there were other issues going on in my body that I was not aware of that were causing some of the health concerns that I had.
We decided to focus first on the Lupus and through focusing on this one thing and making lifestyle, diet and medication changes I have also seen improvement in other areas of my initial concern as well as renewed vitality and joy.
I am thrilled to have Trevor as a health partner in managing my long term health. Having a diagnosis of Lupus and high blood pressure I knew that I could expect to spend a lot of time in Dr. Offices and pharmacies as I aged if I did not make some changes. I have chosen to take back control of my life and focus on improving my health. Doing so will lead to less medical side effects and better health for now and in years to come. I am so thankful that Trevor was available and is working with me in my health care journey. For the first time I feel like I am a partner in my health, not a passive bystander.

I’m not even sure where to start. Going to Valley Vital Medicine has been a wonderful experience. The office has a great comfortable feeling. They have always been on time, have provided wonderful care, and Dr Hausauer and his knowledge of the human body are fantastic. I did ozone therapy and it was a wonderful experience. I think it’s a great option for many people who deal with aches and pains of any kind. I would highly recommend giving it a try and I would highly recommend going to Valley Vital Medicine.

I visited Nurse Practitioner Trevor Hausauer in 2016, shortly after having my second child. After my daughter was born I had an upset stomach and diarrhea numerous times a week. It got to the point where almost after each meal I was getting sick. I didn’t want to go out with friends or eat around anyone, I couldn’t go for walks or do anything after eating as I didn’t know if I was going to get sick. I visited with my family practice doctor who said it was probably IBS and I would just have to learn to live with it, they wanted me to do a colonoscopy to rule out anything else it could be, but she figured with my background it was probably just IBS. This was awful news to me, as I felt like I couldn’t live life the way I wanted to dealing with this each day. I met with a gastroenterologist who set up a colonoscopy, this didn’t feel right to me. I also didn’t want to fork over $3,000 for very uncomfortable testing that I didn’t think would tell me anything. I was visiting with Trevor’s wife, Amy and she told me to visit with him-this was his passion and area of specialty. Trevor had me fill out a lot of paperwork and information about my overall health and diet. He sat down with me and really took the time to understand my situation, he asked questions about when I was getting sick, how often, if I noticed any patterns. He sat and looked through my food journal with me. We decided together that I would try the elimination diet for three weeks and also do a blood test to determine any food sensitivities. While on the elimination diet I was still getting frequent upset stomachs and diarrhea. This was so frustrating to me, we went ahead with the blood test and my results showed I had severe reactions to bananas and pineapples, I was eating bananas almost daily even while on the elimination diet. I took both foods out of my diet and I haven’t been sick in nearly three years. I would have never found out these reactions from a colonoscopy and would probably still be dealing with my “IBS.” I am so incredibly thankful for Trevor, his knowledge and willingness to really sit down and listen and take the time help you figure out my health. I highly recommend Trevor Hausauer at Valley Vital Medicine.
